Bring your own book on Saturday evening at Hotel Emblem San Francisco
Join us for the 1st Silent Reading Party in San Francisco, hosted at Hotel Emblem San Francisco on Saturday, February 8.
Bring that book you've been meaning to get to and make your quiet Thursday evening with Around The Corner community members. This low-key social gathering combines the perfect blend of peaceful reading and social connections at Hotel Emblem’s cozy bar & lounge space.
Hotel Emblem San Francisco, constructed in the early 1900s during the city's post-earthquake reconstruction era, stands as a living testament to San Francisco's rich literary and cultural heritage. The property gained significance as a gathering place for artists and intellectuals during the Beat Generation movement of the 1950s and 60s.
In 2019, under Viceroy Hotels & Resorts' management, the hotel underwent a thoughtful transformation to become Hotel Emblem, deepening its connection to the Beat Generation through deliberate design elements while preserving its historical character. This evolution from a post-earthquake residential hotel to a Beat-inspired boutique destination mirrors San Francisco's own transformation from a rebuilding city to a cultural epicenter.
Obscenity Bar & Lounge: A Modern Beat Haven at Hotel Emblem
At the heart of Hotel Emblem San Francisco lies the Obscenity Bar & Lounge, a sophisticated drinking establishment that pays homage to the rebellious spirit of the Beat Generation. Named in playful reference to the obscenity trials that once challenged Beat writers, this intimate venue combines craft cocktail culture with literary flair, featuring dark wooden accents and vintage-inspired furnishings that evoke a 1950s underground salon.
