Bird & Bear Company nestled in Cole Valley, San Francisco

In 2020 when the pandemic hit, Dan started Bird & Bear with his wife, Ella after nearly 20 years in the coffee industry. At Bird & Bear Coffee, they believe that coffee connects people. While raising infant twins (nicknamed Little Bird and Little Bear), and navigating a time that forced us all to be apart, Dan and Ella set out to use coffee as a way to bring people together.

For Bird & Bear Coffee, that means buying coffee from farmers we’ve known for a decade, saying hello to customers when we see them around the neighborhood, and offering coffees that are made for sharing. It also means being an active part of our local community in San Francisco, where they sell freshly-roasted coffee from their now-iconic garage on Cole Street, in the heart of Cole Valley. When SF neighbors stop by, whether for a cup of sugar, a pound of coffee or a dad joke, it makes the world a brighter place.

Coffee roastery tour + coffee cupping

Bird & Bear Coffee roasts 300 pounds a week at Pulley Collective in Oakland, a priave label co-op for smaller coffee companies. We will walk into their coffee roastery and learn their coffee roasting process and get a chance to taste freshly roasted beans.

Did you know much of the USA's supply of specialty coffee arrives in the Port of Oakland? By driving across the Bay Bridge to collect green beans directly from the port, Bird and Bear Coffee avoids the additional costs of air transportation. This competitive advantage contributes to lower overhead costs, enabling Bird and Bear Coffee to offer specialty coffee at remarkably affordable prices.
